Jonathan Du Toit is a specialist periodontist and senior lecturer of the Implant and Aesthetic Academy, in Cape Town, South Africa. Partnered with Dr Howard Gluckman, together they research, publish, teach, and train dentists aspiring to improve their skills in all things implant dentistry.

Initially enrolled at the University of Stellenbosch in 2000 for his dental degree, Dr Du Toit first spent several years living abroad in South Korea, returning to again take up his studies and complete his dental degree at the University of the Western Cape. He then worked as a general practitioner for four years whilst continuing his postgraduate training and qualifications. He completed the Diploma in Oral Surgery (Dip Oral Surg) from the College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of South Africa, and the 2-year postgraduate certificate in oral implantology from the then University of Pretoria’s ITI Centre of Excellence. He concurrently completed a research Master’s degree (MSc Dent) in implantology at the University of the Witwatersrand. During the same time, he completed the Diploma in Implantology (Dipl. Implantol.) from the Implant and Aesthetic Academy/University of Frankfurt. He then later completed his 4-year specialist training at the University of Pretoria in periodontics and oral medicine. Dr Du Toit is the first in 10 years to earn a Fellowship of the College of Dentistry (FCDSA) in periodontics and oral medicine.

Dr Du Toit has to date co-authored 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and 3 textbook chapters, related primarily to periodontics and implant dentistry. He has published in and reviews for the journals Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research, Journal of Oral Implantology, Implant Dentistry, Journal of Prosthodontics, The Journal of Prosthodontics, and the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry. Together with Dr Gluckman, the focus of their research over the last several years has been furthering knowledge on the partial extraction therapies.

Dr Du Toit is an invited proctor to the DentalXP live patients training course annually in Santos, Brazil. During 2018/2019, Dr Du Toit was also invited to lecture/train in Iran, Germany, Hungary, Namibia, France, and China.
