A/Prof Chun Xu

Researcher

Associate Professor Chun Xu is an NHMRC Investigator Fellow and Sydney Horizon Fellow at the Sydney Dental School, The University of Sydney.

He received his PhD in biomedical engineering and nanotechnology from The University of Queensland and subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Stanford University. He also holds a Master of Dental Surgery in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Wuhan University.

Associate Professor Xu’s research focuses on the development of functional nanomaterials and biomaterials for dental and biomedical applications, particularly bone and tissue regeneration, personalised three-dimensional-printed scaffolds, drug delivery and regenerative medicine.

He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Nature Reviews Bioengineering, Angewandte Chemie International Edition and Advanced Materials, and is an inventor on several patents. His research has received more than 10,000 citations, with an h-index of 57. He has also been recognised among the world’s top 2% of scientists in the Stanford University-Elsevier rankings.

Associate Professor Xu serves as an Associate Editor or Editor for the Journal of Nanobiotechnology, Regenerative Medicine and Dentistry and Nano TransMed, and is a member of the Editorial Working Group of National Science Review. His contributions have been recognised through several awards, including the TERMIS-AP Young Investigator Award, the Young Tall Poppy Science Award and the Frontiers Rising Star Award.
